Creating Collaborative Communities

Hong Kong Stories
The history of of Hong Kong is rich with stories and made an excellent study for students to see how issues in history impact the issues we still have in our world today. Hence, the project Hong Kong Stories was born from from the creative minds of teachers and students at Chinese International School.

Teacher Collaboration
The PBL interdisciplinary teaching team at Chinese International School wrote a project that quickly became one of their favorites: Hong Kong Stories. The project integrated history, current issues, language, script writing, acting and filmmaking. Each teacher from the team served as coaches for one or two of the student production teams throughout the process.

Student Empowerment
Students formed collaborative production teams to conduct research, write scripts, create characters, act, film, edit and produce films showcasing an issue in Hong Kong's history and it's connection to today. Films were produced in Chinese with English subtitles, enhancing the students bilingual language skills.

Impact
Tai Kwun, once the main prison of Hong Kong, served as a backdrop for many of the students films. Today, the location is a historic site and museum. The films the students created were donated to Tai Kwun for use in their public education program.
